We all are in love with our new pets. It all started with a trip for the kids to visit some chicks and ducks at their aunt and uncle’s house. I stayed home with a sick kid. Little did I know that they would swing by Tractor Supply on their way home. Landon and Elle walked into our home carrying boxes with chirpy chirps coming from inside. I quickly knew what had happened. They came home with only 2 chicks, right? No… we have 12 chicks and 2 ducks, and we have added 2 more duckies since.

I knew I married a farmer at heart. His heart is for caring for animals and people. I have seen it time and again… Tater’s love in giving of himself for others. It’s incredible, and I love that about him. It has been no different with this experience. I have loved watching him with these animals and the kids. We all have enjoyed these little critters in our home. They stayed in our kitchen the first night. I quickly made it a rule that they could NOT go on the carpet. The next day, Tater made them a nice home in our garage where they have been staying ever since. We won’t be able to keep them much longer. They are growing *very* fast and already look so different from when we did this shoot several weeks ago.

Below are 2 of our ducks: Sunshine and Lovey.

We are surprised we haven’t killed any yet… especially with Paisley caring for them. She was afraid of them first –  afraid they would poop on her.
We now have to watch her to not squeeze the life out of them. She loves them so much and gets so excited to take care of them. She cleans up their poop now like a pro. Paisley named her 2 chicks Red and White (because of their feathers – in the picture above) and her duck she named Quack.
These poor chicks and ducks have been through so much with us. They have been walked in a stoller, carried in a bookbags, and have had their nails painted so we could tell them apart at first. They have swam in our bathtub and have fallen asleep by our fireplace. We have even taken them on errands and to a birthday party. This girl can’t get enough of hers. Sunshine is her duck and has brightened her days. She loves to snuggle and kiss her duck. Her favorite thing to do is swaddle Sunshine in a towel and watch Doc Mcstuffins with her duck on her lap. Briana and Elle named their chick Tiny. This picture is similar to the one above but I couldn’t pick my favorite. So here is both. 😉
This is how she likes to hold them.

Landon is Tater’s right hand farm hand. Right there with him doing the chores. I’m thankful for the experiences the kids are learning (even if it is for a short time). Landon named his chicks Angel and Blaze. Lovey is his duck.
He wanted his cowboy boots in the picture. I love the ideas that the kids came up with. It was a school night when we did this shoot. Maybe it was their way of staying up past their bedtime. :=)
Okay, now shoes off.
Ha-ha. We were laughing so hard to what was happening below. And yes, it did poop on his head. Landon took it well and continued laughing.
Besides coloring and drawing, another favorite thing Elle loves to do is to read to someone or something – even if that includes a duck. This was her idea. I love how she gets so into it making up words as she goes along. Check out the duck listening. Too funny. Elle named her chicks: Calm and Settle. Can you tell she picked the non-wild ones?

A chick we named Brownie with help from a friend. (Thanks Carter!) He is one of our littlest and very sleepy here.
Feel free to swing by if you want to play with them before we have to find them a new home. :=)

This is one of the best posts I have ever seen! I can’t believe that I have been enjoying those chicks and ducks too. Maybe its because I don’t have to clean up after them. 🙂 Really….I think I want every one of these pictures to put up in my house somewhere! They are AMAZING!…. and I love your stories.
